Yes. You can opt out of seeing transmogrified gear and continue collecting appearances. The Classic preset starts with transmog disabled.

Visit a transmogrifier to set outfits or disable the display. Eligible looters can receive appearances from bind-on-pickup uncommon or rare dungeon drops. Epic raid appearances go to the player the item binds to.
